Getting Started
What happens when I arrive for an in-person appointment?
That Therapy is located inside Family Worship Center in a private business office. When you arrive, park in the lot next to the flagpole and enter through the church office entrance.
Let the front desk know you're there for your appointment. They'll direct you to the waiting area, and Emmanuel will meet you when it's time for your session.
Restrooms are available, and arriving about 15 minutes early for your first appointment can give you time to settle in.
What happens during the first session?
The first session is primarily about getting to know you and understanding what brought you to counseling.
We'll review any necessary paperwork, talk about your current concerns, discuss what you would like to be different, and begin identifying goals for our work together.
You'll also have time to ask questions and get a feel for what working together is like. The first few sessions typically focus on understanding your story, identifying important patterns, and building a clear direction for counseling.
What if I'm nervous or unsure about starting therapy?
You don't need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before you come in.
It's common to feel nervous when talking with someone new about personal parts of your life. We can start wherever you are, move at a reasonable pace, and talk through whatever questions or concerns you have about the process.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Scheduling is completed through the secure online booking page. You'll select your appointment and complete the forms needed before beginning services.
After your appointment request is received, you'll receive confirmation and any additional next-step information.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
There isn't one timeline that works for everyone. Your length of treatment depends on your goals, what you're working through, your progress, and what level of support is helpful.
I generally encourage new therapy clients to begin with several consistent sessions so we have time to understand what's going on and build momentum. We can then discuss whether weekly, biweekly, or less frequent appointments make the most sense.
Services & Fit
How could therapy benefit me?
Therapy can provide a place to slow down and better understand your thoughts, emotions, relationships, patterns, and responses to difficult situations.
Depending on your goals, our work may involve improving coping skills, communication, emotional awareness, decision-making, relationships, confidence, boundaries, or how you respond to stress and life transitions.
Therapy isn't about someone telling you how to live your life. It's a collaborative process designed to help you understand yourself more clearly and make changes that fit your goals and values.
What's the difference between therapy, coaching, and premarital counseling?
Therapy focuses on mental and emotional well-being and may address concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, past experiences, patterns of behavior, identity, or life transitions.
Coaching is more goal-oriented and focuses on areas such as accountability, clarity, habits, motivation, decision-making, and personal or professional growth. Coaching is not a substitute for mental health treatment.
Premarital counseling helps couples prepare intentionally for marriage. Topics may include communication, conflict, expectations, finances, family backgrounds, intimacy, faith, and future goals. The SYMBIS assessment may also be used as part of the premarital process.
Do I have to be Christian to receive counseling?
No. People from different backgrounds, beliefs, and life experiences are welcome.
Your values and preferences matter. If you want Christian faith, Scripture, or spiritual reflection incorporated into counseling, we can intentionally include those things. If you don't, we can focus on your counseling goals without faith integration.
Can I meet virtually?
Yes. Both in-person and virtual options are available. Teletherapy is available to therapy clients located in Pennsylvania at the time of the session.
In-person appointments are available in Lansdale, Pennsylvania.
How long is each session?
Standard individual therapy, Christian counseling, and coaching sessions are approximately 50 minutes.
If additional time is needed, a longer session may be arranged in advance when scheduling allows.
Pricing & Payment
How much do services cost?
Current self-pay rates are:
6-session package · $65 per session
Do you accept insurance?
That Therapy is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly.
For therapy services, a superbill may be available that you can submit to your insurance company if your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits.
Mentaya may also be used to help clients navigate potential out-of-network reimbursement.
Insurance reimbursement is determined by your individual plan and is not guaranteed, so it's always a good idea to confirm your benefits directly with your insurer.
When is payment due?
That Therapy operates as a private-pay practice. Payment information and applicable fees are reviewed as part of your intake paperwork and practice policies.
Premarital counseling package pricing is outlined before beginning the package so you know what to expect.
Privacy, Policies & Professional Care
Is what I share confidential?
Therapy is confidential, with certain legal and ethical exceptions. Those exceptions will be reviewed with you as part of the informed-consent process so you understand when information may need to be disclosed.
If you would like That Therapy to communicate with another professional or individual on your behalf, a Release of Information can generally be used to document your permission.
What does it mean that Emmanuel receives clinical supervision?
Emmanuel is an Associate Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania and receives ongoing clinical supervision
Clinical supervision provides professional oversight, consultation, feedback, and support as part of responsible associate-level counseling practice. It is one of the ways clinical work is supported by established professional and ethical standards.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens. If you need to cancel or move an appointment, please provide at least 24 hours' notice whenever possible.
Late cancellations and missed appointments may be subject to a fee according to the practice policies you receive during intake.
You don't have to figure it out alone.
If you're unsure which service fits, have a question about scheduling, or simply want clarification before getting started, send a message and we'll point you in the right direction.
Ready to take the next step?
You don't have to know exactly where counseling will lead before starting. The first step is simply beginning the conversation.
